The Lab Process Overview

·         The majority of labs are ordered through EPR, which has a direct real-time interface with PSS. 

·         External labs such as Dynacare, Life Labs, CML, and Alpha also all interface to PSS.

·         If ordering from external labs use the MOH lab requisition form, which is available from the Custom Forms menu.

·         From EPR:   All Laboratory, Microbiology, Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging Labs/ Reports and consult notes from the Hospital Report Manager (HRM) are automatically uploaded into the PSS Lab Inbox.

·         Hospital Report Manager:  Hospitals across the province are sending reports electronically directly to the Lab Report Inbox.  Each hospital has determined which reports they will send electronically.

·         All other reports are posted to the patient chart by the Records Room and the provider will receive a PSS message regarding the report. 

·      The system supports transfer of coverage to another healthcare provider.
 Covering a Colleague During Absences

·         Critical and abnormal results are highlighted in red in PSS.

·         Everyone is expected to review their results every 72 hours, according to the FHT policy (July 2015).
