Ordering an Injectable Medication

·        Insulin Depo-Medrol and Vitamin B12 are the most commonly prescribed injectable medications

·        Other injectable drugs include medications ordered by specialists such as Denosumab
and Methotrexate

·        Drugs ordered by outside specialists should always be entered into PSS so that they are
visible on the CPP, for communication purposes. (Choose the Post Only option)

·        Be sure to document any important information, not captured by the fields, in the Label
Instructions line

An Injection Example

Lantus Insulin

·        Depending on the form of Lantus that you choose, you will be able to select either a cartridge,
pen or solution as the form from the Form drop down menu found  in the first line of the prescribing pane

·        Cartridges and pens come in boxes of 5, which is why 5 devices were ordered in the example

·        In the example above, we are ordering an Insulin Pen which is documented in the Label Instructions field

·        Note: You could have also chosen Lantus 100Units/ml Pen in PSS (in the name field)
