Sending a Message from a Progress Note
· Your messages will be bright yellow
· If the message is for someone else
· the message will be light yellow
· there will be a bar along the bottom of the message with the person’s name
· You should never act on another’s behalf, unless you are covering for them
· Minimize the message by selecting the unchecked square in the top right corner of the message
· When you re-open the chart, the message will re-appear
· the message is removed from the chart and archived
· No further info will be added to the message and it is not saved in the clinical chart
· The Archive button is used extensively throughout the Family Health Centre.
· Opens a window
that gives you the option to copy the message contents into a Progress
Note
for your patient.
· You can document
entire message conversations into a patient’s chart. (Be sure to
check off the box!)
PSS will then archive the message.

· Allows you to reply to a message to the sender
· Allows you to send the message to someone else
· Allows you to add information, rather than creating a new message.
· The original message and any replies remain together for context, which creates a string of messages.
· Think of messages
like a sticky note. If it is in your name, it is for
you. If you forward it to someone else,
the note belongs to them. If you append your message,
you are simply adding more information to your “post it” note.
· You can send a message to someone that links to a specific progress note
· Using this feature ensures that you both are referring to the same progress note
1. Double click (or right click) on the note date and select: Send a Message About This Note
2. The Message screen appears. The progress note date will be automatically documented.
3. When the message is sent there will be an icon (that looks like an eye) on the message
· Click this icon and a blue flash will momentary appear around the progress note that it was linked to.
