Stamps

Stamps are versatile and powerful tools for use with your progress notes. They enable you

to quickly enter a formatted block of text, using special characters as shortcuts for quick data

entry. They save time by entering blocks of repetitive text, and ensure that data is uniformly

formatted, which makes searching for data much easier.

·         There are several types of stamps used in PSS

·         The most commonly used stamp is the SOAP stamp

1.    To find a stamp, click on Edit and then Insert Stamp, from the menu bar
(or CTRL + I)

2.    From the list of stamps, double-click on SOAP.

3.    The SOAP stamp will appear in the chart. In the shortcut bar, you can now proceed to enter
clinical statements.  Type the desired text and click on tab to go to the next special character
until the SOAP is complete.

Example of a complete SOAP:

Stamps use the following special characters to help you quickly enter data:

Special Character

Description

: (Colon)

Indicates a place where you can enter text immediately

• (Bullet)

Indicates where you can enter text.  It causes your cursor to stop and allows you to type text in place of the bullet.

<< >> (Guillemets)

Encloses a standard or default phrase.  You can tab past the guillemets to keep the standard phrase, or backspace to delete it.

<<••>> (two bullets between guillemets)

Indicates a place where text is required.  You cannot Tab past this character until you enter text to replace the two bullets.

If you type the first few letters of a stamp's name in a progress note before choosing Edit > Insert Stamp,
the stamp is then automatically inserted.
For example, type “so” followed by Ctrl + I to automatically insert a SOAP stamp.
